Vitamin A

  • This fat-soluble vitamin is essential for the proper formation and maintenance of cell membranes, reproductive function, vision, and bone formation.  Vitamin A also stimulates immune function, and is needed for proper formation of growth hormone
  • Beta-carotene is a carotenoid that the body converts into vitamin A.  Beta carotene is a potent immune-system booster and a powerful antioxidant that helps prevent LDL oxidation.  This maintains arterial health and functioning.  Beta-carotene also stimulates immunity by increasing receptors for T-helper and natural killer cells.
  • Healthy individuals supplemented with an antioxidant cocktail (vitamin C, E and beta carotene) showed an increased resistance to LDL cholesterol oxidation.

Vitamin C

  • This water-soluble vitamin is an antioxidant that supports the immune system, capillary strength, and the production of collagen.  Vitamin C is required for the synthesis of L-carnitine, a nutrient required by the heart and other muscles to metabolize fat, and PGE-1, a prostaglandin that prevents platelets from sticking together. 
  • Vitamins C helps to protect LDL cholesterol from oxidative damage. Low levels of vitamin C are associated with increased levels of LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, which can have detrimental effects on the heart. Lack of vitamin C is also linked to arterial wall damage.

Vitamin D

  • Vitamin D is a unique nutrient in that it is the only vitamin that can be synthesized in the body.  The body generates vitamin D in the skin when it is exposed to UV light.  However, in conditions where sunlight is insufficient, such as during the winter and in northern areas, the body must acquire it through the diet.
  • Vitamin D3 (the form in this product) has been found to be 2 to 3 times more effective in increasing blood levels of 25(OH)D (circulating levels of vitamin D) than the equivalent dose of vitamin D2.

Bone Health

  • Vitamin D’s most important role is maintaining blood levels of calcium, which it accomplishes by increasing absorption of calcium from food and reducing calcium excretion.  Both effects keep calcium in the body and thereby spare the calcium stored in the bones.  Vitamin D also helps regulate phosphorous and magnesium metabolism.

Physical ability

  • A randomized, placebo controlled study of ninety-six subjects found that supplementation with 400 IU Vitamin D plus 800 mg of calcium per day for nine months improved gait speed and body sway.
  • Analysis of a previously conducted randomized clinical trial on one hundred twenty-four nursing home residents receiving Vitamin D supplementation found that those receiving 800 IU per day for 5 months had better physical health by exhibiting.
  • A literature review found that Vitamin D deficiency is associated with muscle weakness and lower grip strength.

Brain Health

  • Having adequate levels of vitamin D is associated with better cognitive performance and health in a recent observational trial. In the study, which followed 3,113 European men aged between 40 and 79, researchers found that higher blood levels of vitamin D were associated with better performance in tests of attention and speed of information processing. The association was even stronger for men over the age of 60.

Colon Health

  • Follow-up from a longitudinal study of 14,916 men found a relationship between levels of Vitamin D and cellular health.

Vitamin B6

  • Many members of the vitamin B family are necessary for the proper functioning of the brain and nervous system. B vitamins are rapidly depleted when the body is working to overcome stress, and allowing the body’s stores to become low can actually exacerbate stress. This is particularly true of pantothenic acid (vitamin B-5), which plays an important role in adrenal function. 
  • Pantothenic acid is also necessary for the production of energy and the synthesis of fatty acids, phospholipids, cholesterol, steroid hormones, and the neurotransmitter acetylcholine.


  • Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the body, and it comprises 99% of bones and teeth.  The remaining free calcium is found in the blood and in the cells.  If calcium levels in the blood drop and are not replenished, the body will take calcium from the bones.
  • Calcium is vital for proper growth and development. It plays an active role in bone development and metabolism, and epidemiological research indicates that those with habitually high intakes of calcium have better bone strength than those whose calcium intake is low.

  • Choline is used to make the brain chemical acetylcholine, which is essential for memory.
  • Choline is also necessary for healthy cell structures.  It helps to form phosphatidylcholine, the primary phospholipid of cell membranes.


  • Inositol is highly concentrated in the heart and brain, including areas associated with memory.  It also serves as a cofactor for serotonin, the neurotransmitter involved with mood regulation.

Total ORAC Testing

  • There are 5 major free radicals that affect our bodies: peroyxl, hydroxyl, superoxide, singlet oxygen and peroxynitrite. ORAC, or Oxygen Radical Absorbent Capacity testing has been available for many years (Dr. Williams first wrote about it in 1999), however the test was limited to measuring the scavenging capacity of a food against the peroxyl radical. Today, state-of-the-art testing—called Total ORAC—now makes it possible to test the antioxidant capacity of a food/product against all five major free radicals. Total ORAC gives a more complete picture of the potential health benefits of a given product.
  • Peroxyl radicals are formed within the delicate fatty acids that make up cell membranes, creating damaging breaks in the cell membrane. Without sufficient antioxidants to neutralize this radical, it can eventually trigger the collapse of the cell membrane which causes the cell to die. Peroxyl radicals are responsible for the oxidation of cell membranes and other lipids in the body, such as cholesterol.
  • The hydroxyl radical is the most toxic free radical found in the body. Heavy metals, like iron or mercury are often responsible for the formation of the hydroxyl radical, but they are also formed during exercise. The hydroxyl radical is so dangerous because it is extremely reactive – usually lasting only thousandths of a second before stealing a hydrogen atom from whatever it touches first. This may not seem like it could do much damage, but there isn’t a single area in the cell that can afford to lose a hydrogen atom. And, hydroxyl radicals typically travel in packs – you never fight just one. Rather, there are usually millions of hydroxyl molecules at once. Hydroxyl radicals, which cannot be eliminated by the body’s own endogenous antioxidants, are linked with DNA damage.
  • Superoxide is an oxygen molecule with an extra electron. It is the most common free radical in the body, and is formed in the mitochondria during the body’s processing of oxygen to create energy (ATP). On its own, superoxide isn’t particularly damaging. However, it can trigger a dangerous chain reaction. It is the main source for the generation of the free radical hydrogen peroxide, and also reacts with heavy metals in the body, activating their ability to create the toxic hydroxyl radical. This free radical can not only prematurely kill the cell (attacking its membranes), but possibly create deviant cells which could multiply out of control (by attacking chromosomes). By neutralizing superoxide, antioxidants also prevent the formation of hydrogen peroxide and hydroxyl free radicals which contribute to lipid and DNA damage.
  • Peroxynitrite is a short-lived oxidant species produced by the reaction of nitric oxide and superoxide. It contributes to the breakdown of vital proteins such as collagen (found in bones, skin, connective tissue and blood vessels), and affects many cellular constituents including lipids, amino acids, and nucleotides.
  • The singlet oxygen free radical is formed under several conditions. If regular oxygen is exposed to radiation in the form of sunlight, the chemical bonds between the two oxygen molecules break, making it very hazardous to your health. Singlet oxygen is a mutated form of oxygen that negatively affects the joints and skin, but its most damaging affects occurs in the eyes, where it can damage the lens and/or the retina. It can also contribute to cholesterol problems and cardiovascular problems.

N-Acetyl Cysteine

  • N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) is a specially modified form of the dietary amino acid Cysteine.  NAC is a powerful antioxidant that promotes optimal immune system functioning. 
  • NAC is a precursor to glutathione and has been found to increase glutathione levels.  Glutathione has been recognized as an extremely important compound in the body as one of the most powerful and important detoxifying compounds.  It is also considered the body’s premier antioxidant.
  • Glutathione is commonly referred to as the “universal” antioxidant as it is common to all animals, plants, and microorganisms. Found throughout the body in its reduced form, glutathione is one of the most abundant water-soluble antioxidants.  Glutathione’s high electron-donating capacity to neutralize free radicals makes it the body’s most potent antioxidant that is crucial to the mitochondria.  By maintaining sufficient levels of glutathione, the body is armed with its greatest defense against the oxidative stress we encounter from within as well as from external sources.  Glutathione plays a major role in keeping the aging process under control.


  • Turmeric (Curcuma longa) has been used as a traditional medicine, spice and coloring agent for thousands of years. Native to India and South-East Asia, turmeric has been used traditionally to alleviate aches and pains, and as a Qi stimulant.
  • Best known as a spice that gives a distinctive flavor and yellow color to curry powder and mustard, turmeric is a member of the ginger family and has long been used for healing in India.  Turmeric contains curcumin, a constituent believed to have antioxidant properties.  
  • Curcumin has been shown to be an effective antioxidant, scavenging various free radicals, including hydroxyl radicals, hydrogen peroxide, superoxide, nitric oxide and those that cause lipid peroxidation.
  • Dr. Williams has been writing about the health benefits of turmeric for over 10 years. Turmeric’s antioxidant properties touch almost every part of the body.


  • Para amino benzoic acid is a component of folic acid, a member of the B family of vitamins.  It plays a role in protein metabolism, intestinal health, and in the formation of red blood cells.  PABA is important for healthy hair and pigmentation.


  • Silica supports healthy bones, hair, skin, connective tissue, arteries, eyes, and nails.  Animal studies indicate that silicon supplementation may support bone formation by supporting the cross links between collagen during bone growth. Trace Minerals (Elemin™)
  • Although trace minerals are only needed in small amounts, they play a key role in the body.  They support heart health, immunity, and growth and development.

Resveratrol (from Japanese Knotweed)

  • Resveratrol is an antioxidant found in the skins of red grapes, peanuts, raspberries, and mulberries, in addition to the root of Japanese Knotweed (Polygonum cuspidatum).
  • In plants, resveratrol is synthesized as a defense mechanism to help protect it from invading fungus.
  • Preliminary cell and animal research suggests that resveratrol may support the cardiovascular system, brain function, and normal cell replication, all by alleviating oxidative stress.
  • Because resveratrol is found in the skins of grapes, only red wine contains it.  It is theorized that the health benefits of drinking red wine in moderation are partly attributable to resveratrol.

Mixed Tocopherols

  • The vitamin E family is actually composed of 8 different antioxidants.  Half are called tocopherols, of which alpha tocopherol is the primary form maintained in the body. The other tocopherols, including gamma and delta, are present in foods and are gaining attention in the scientific community for their antioxidant properties.
  • Approximately 65 to 70% of the total dietary intake of tocopherols is gamma tocopherol, coming from nut, seed and soybean oils. Despite this, gamma tocopherol is still only found in small amounts in the blood.

Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA)

  • Both water and fat-soluble, ALA can enter all parts of a cell to neutralize free radicals.  ALA can cross the blood brain barrier, and has been shown to reduce the accumulation of damaging free radicals within the brain.
  • ALA interacts synergistically with vitamins C, E and glutathione, and helps to restore and regenerate them.

Coenzyme Q-10

  • CoQ10 is an antioxidant that helps produce cellular energy and may stimulate the immune system.  Without adequate levels of CoQ10, the body cannot maintain normal levels of activity or ward off illnesses properly.
  • Every human cell, with the exception of red blood cells, contains mitochondria—the cells’ energy factories.  There are approximately ten trillion mitochondria in the body, with the heart, brain and liver containing the most.  It is their job to make ATP—the body’s active, readily available form of energy—from the food we eat.   This vital role they play in cell metabolism and in energy production occurs through processes called the Krebs cycle and the electron transport chain.
  • The electron transport chain is a series of oxidation-reduction (REDOX) chemical reactions that allow the mitochondria to transform the food you eat into energy (ATP). The electrons need ubiquinone (oxidized CoQ10) to make their way down the electron transport chain or ATP production stops – causing a decrease in energy, an increase in free radicals.
  • As we age, the levels of CoQ10 in our body decrease.  This may be due to decreased production, an insufficiency in the diet, or the cumulative effects of stress and illness. 


  • Lutein is a carotenoid present in a wide variety of plant foods, with leafy green vegetables such as kale, spinach, turnip greens and collards containing the highest levels.  Green peas, summer squash and broccoli also contain appreciable amounts, as well as egg yolks. One serving of leafy, green vegetables supplies approximately 1 mg of lutein, in addition to other healthful nutrients. 
  • Lutein helps support eye health, being uniquely concentrated in the macular portion of the retina.  Lutein (and zeaxanthin) is also found in the eye lens, and in parts of the outer membranes of eye rod cells that are rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids, which are prone to oxidation.
  • Lutein functions in two main ways:  as an antioxidant and as a filter for high-energy short-wave blue light from visible light. Lutein is more potent than beta carotene in its ability to filter blue light.
  • Recent epidemiological studies suggest that lutein plays a protective role against oxidative stress (free radical stress) in the epithelium and cortex of the human lens.
  • The eyes of the elderly, smokers, blue-eyed individuals, and post-menopausal women can have reduced lutein.
  • An observational study suggests that higher blood levels of lutein are associated with healthy arteries.
  • Lutein has been shown to accumulate in human skin after oral ingestion, with emerging research suggesting that lutein may play several important roles in protecting the skin from UV-generated free radicals.


Mixed Tocotrienols

  • When scientists first analyzed vitamin E in the 1950s, they discovered 8 distinct fractions, which they called tocopherols.  What they didn’t realize was that half of the fractions weren’t tocopherols at all!  Today we know that vitamin E is composed of 4 tocopherols and 4 tocotrienols.
  • As members of the vitamin E family, tocotrienols are potent antioxidants that primarily serve to protect the lipid parts of the cells, such as cell membranes, from oxidation caused by free radicals. Tocotrienols also appear to support neurovascular function.


  • An antioxidant that supports a healthy immune system and healthy eyes, lycopene is deposited in the liver, lungs, prostate gland, colon and skin.  Its concentration in body tissues tends to be higher than all other carotenoids.
  • Lycopene is one of the most effective quenchers of free radicals found in the body. However, lycopene levels decreases with age.
  • In a European trial, lycopene increased natural killer cell activity by 28% in 12 weeks. This activity is an important component of immune health.


  • Boron is a trace mineral that is highly concentrated in bones and is necessary for calcium and magnesium metabolism.  Research demonstrates the use of boron aids in calcium absorption and bone strength.
  • Another study demonstrated the influence of low boron and magnesium intake on bone health, concluding that deficiencies in these minerals adversely affect bone metabolism.


  • Vanadium is a highly bioactive trace mineral found in mushrooms, shellfish, various spices, beer, and wine.   It functions to promote healthy blood sugar levels and normal insulin sensitivity.
  • Vanadium works with the insulin already present in the blood to help promote the body’s sensitivity to insulin. Vanadium is believed to perform this function by inhibiting the enzyme protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP), which regulates transfer signals involved with insulin activity.
