What Causes Bursitis?
Learn what conditions may cause bursitis, including infection and arthritis
The usual cause of bursitis is overuse or abuse. The repeated friction caused by a muscle rubbing over and over a bursa can cause the bursa to become inflamed, leading to pain. However, bursitis can also be caused by:
- Infection
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Aging (as you get older you may not produce quite as much lubricating fluid, especially if you don't have a steady exercise routine)
