About Dr. Williams
About Dr. David Williams
A medical researcher, biochemist, and chiropractor, Dr. David Williams has developed a reputation as one of the world’s leading authorities on natural healing.
Dr. Williams’ exclusive natural treatments and remedies, often uncovered in far-flung places such as the African Bush or Australian Outback, are usually years ahead of those offered by conventional medicine. Dr. Williams’ degrees and academic affiliations include multiple bachelor’s degrees, a Doctor of Chiropractic from Texas Chiropractic College, and research projects at the University of Houston, University of Texas at San Antonio, and Rice University.
Today Dr. Williams is active primarily as an author, speaker, and adviser for the research and development of nutritional supplements. He joined the Healthy Directions family of experts in 1995.
Dr. Williams’ mission is to provide those committed to good health the best resources available to support the body’s innate ability to heal itself. His solutions are as unique as his personal journey.
Dr. Williams grew up on a farm in a small town in the Texas panhandle, an experience that keenly developed his problem-solving abilities and instilled in him the importance of simple values such as honesty and helping your neighbor. After graduating from Southwest Texas State University, Dr. Williams began working as an adjuster for a health insurance company. He observed that accident victims who received chiropractic care experienced better long-term outcomes than those who received conventional medical treatments. This insight prompted Dr. Williams to earn his Doctor of Chiropractic degree and led him to establish what became the largest non-invasive medical facility in central Texas at the time. His highly individual and holistic approach to treatment attracted many people with difficult concerns. To help these patients, Dr. Williams began devoting more time to research. Later, he sold his practice to pursue research full time.
For 30 years, Dr. Williams has been presenting his cutting-edge research and discoveries through his monthly newsletter, Alternatives. Its goal: to provide natural health alternatives to health-conscious individuals so that they aren’t limited to conventional medicine’s one-size-fits-all approach. Dr. Williams believed so strongly in this endeavor that he served as writer, editor, publisher, and marketer during the early years of the newsletter, producing each issue in his own home and transporting bundles of envelopes to the post office for mailing. Today his passion continues, with each issue showcasing the latest medical breakthroughs and his recommended natural health solutions.
Using leads provided to him by an extensive international network of scientists and researchers, Dr. Williams has travelled the world investigating natural treatments for almost every major health concern. His travels have spanned six continents and innumerable countries, and he has identified almost 30 breakthrough ingredients that he has incorporated into treatments and supplements. In 1989, years before most people had heard about saw palmetto, Dr. Williams encouraged its use to promote prostate health. As early as 1992, Dr. Williams wrote about how chondroitin sulfate can benefit people with arthritis. In 1994, he repeated the scoop for glucosamine sulfate.
Dr. Williams is especially well known in the field of probiotics, a topic he has been researching for so long that when he first began his studies, the term “probiotics” wasn’t even in use yet. During his early travels, he experienced firsthand the digestive health benefits of lactic acid yeast and traditional fermented foods. Always eating and drinking what the locals ate and drank, yet rarely suffering from “tourista,” Dr. Williams became convinced that the fermented foods and drinks of the native cultures—along with the bottle of lactic acid yeast that he never left home without—helped protect and even promote his digestive health. As early as 1989, Dr. Williams devoted an entire issue of his Alternatives newsletter to the importance of bacterial balance, documenting the myriad health benefits of good bacteria in his seminal article, “The Key to Solving a Thousand Problems.”
The “Mom Test”
In keeping with his medical commitment to first do no harm, as well as the closely held value of standing by his word, Dr. Williams only recommends therapies that effectively solve a health problem without creating side effects. All potential solutions are evaluated rigorously to ensure safety and efficacy. Double-blind, placebo-controlled studies are one type of proof that Dr. Williams considers, but he is open to traditional use and other forms of scientific research as well. Most importantly, though, Dr. Williams tests each and every treatment himself and will not recommend a therapy to anyone unless it passes his “Mom Test.”
...He would feel confident giving it to his mother.
Medical Myth Buster
For decades, Dr. Williams has been writing about some of conventional medicine’s most dangerous practices, despite heavy criticism.
He was among the first to warn us about the dangers of hormone replacement therapy, the deadly and debilitating side effects of aspirin therapy, and risks that taking statin drugs could lead to muscle weakness, memory loss, and heart failure.
Dr. Williams continues to stay on top of the research to serve not only as a watchdog for consumer but also to help health-conscious individuals find effective natural solutions to their health problems.
